The dress Mrs. Salisbury is wearing is cut low, so that her chemise may be seen beneath it. The transparent linen or muslin or gauze of the bodice could be a second chemise over the heavier one we see at the top edge of the sleeves and over tops of the breasts. A large pin draws are attention to the meeting of the three fabric at the center of the breasts.
