Bonnets and Hats


The April, 1794 Issue of The Gallery of Fashion features in Fig. 4 a "Scotch bonnet of garnet-coloured satin, the ends trimmed with a gold fringe, and the bonnet with blue fox fur."

The May, 1794 Issue of The Gallery of Fashion features in Fig. 9 a "Scotch bonnet of rose-coloured satin, trimmed with three rows of pearls ... [and] Two white feathers on the left side."
Detail of Figs. 10 and 11 from the June, 1794 Issue of The Gallery of Fashion. Fig. 10 on the left is in "Straw-coloured gipsy hat, trimmed with lilac riband." Fig. 11 is in "Plain chip hat, trimmed with purple ribands."
Detail of Fig. 12 from the June, 1794 Issue of The Gallery of Fashion. Fig. 12 is in "Demi-gipsy hat, trimmed with green ribands, forming a large bow in the front." The feathers are called "party-coloured."

The August, 1794 Issue of The Gallery of Fashion features in Fig. 20 a lady in half-mourning wearing "white chip hat bound with black, and trimmed with a piece of black silk; two black feathers placed on the right side, near the front. Fig. 21 wears "white stamp-paper hat, trimmed with green riband." Fig. 22 wears a "straw- coloured hat, trimmed with orange and purple ribands."
